Starting a Call
Calls let you switch from a text conversation to voice or video with team members. They are initiated from within a chat channel or direct message thread.
Call quality and in-call controls are being actively improved. Core functionality — starting, joining, ending, and muting — works as described here.
Before you begin
- Calls require a modern browser with WebRTC support (all current desktop browsers qualify).
- Allow microphone access when your browser prompts. For video calls, camera access is also required.
- All participants must be signed in to the portal.
Starting a call from a channel or DM
- Open the channel or DM thread you want to call from.
- Select the Call icon in the conversation header (phone or camera icon).
- Choose Voice call or Video call.
- The call panel opens for you. Other participants in the thread receive a call notification.
Joining a call
When a call is in progress in a thread you are part of, a call banner appears at the top of that conversation.
- Select Join in the call banner.
- The call panel opens and connects you to the session.
In-call controls
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Mute / Unmute | Toggle your microphone. Other participants cannot hear you when muted. |
| Camera on / off | Toggle your video feed (video calls only). |
| End call | Leave the call. Other participants remain connected unless you are the last person. |
Ending a call
Select End call (red phone icon) to leave. If you are the last participant, the call ends for everyone.
